Dear Year 10 Parents and Carers
I hope you have all had a wonderful and restful half-term break.
As many of you will remember, I had the pleasure of working with our pupils during half of Year 7 and Year 8. Since then, I have been away completing my Master’s degree, and I am thrilled to be returning to school after the October half-term to officially step back in as your Head of Year for the remainder of the current school year.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Heaton, who is leaving the role to undertake a broader, more strategic behaviour role across all of Key Stage Four. We wish him the very best in his new position.
In addition to my new role, there is also a change within the Deputy Head of Year:
Miss Bale is moving to Year 10 to support me as part of our pastoral team, bringing her dedication and enthusiasm to help our pupils thrive.
Miss Davies is moving on to become the Deputy Head of Year for Year 8 as part of a restructuring. We want to thank her for everything she has done for this cohort and wish her the absolute best in her new role.
To celebrate our pupils' hard work, positive attitudes, and commitment to learning, we are launching a brand-new Tutor League Table this term.
How it works: Tutors will compete based on a balanced metric combining positive behaviour, low negative points, and excellent attendance.
The Reward: The winning tutor group at the end of the term will be treated to a pizza party!
We want to encourage friendly competition and celebrate those who consistently show readiness to learn, kindness, and resilience. We encourage you to chat with your child about how their tutor group is tracking in the league table. This is being launched to pupils during assembly this week with the aim of starting this the following week.
Year 10 lays the essential foundations for GCSEs and future pathways. Partnership between home and school is more important than ever during these years, and whilst I appreciate there have been many changes in the pastoral support over the years (including myself), hopefully this will reassure you that the support will remain the same and we will stay in close contact with Miss Davies and Mr Heaton during this transition period.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Warm regards
Mr Doncom
