Spotlight on... Senior Leadership Visibility
At Swanmore College, the safety and wellbeing of our pupils is our highest priority. One of the ways we support this is through a visible Senior Leadership Team presence during breaktimes and lunchtimes.
This Spotlight explains what Senior Leadership Visibility looks like and how pupils can access support when they need it.
Some facts for you
- Members of the Senior Leadership Team are on duty during breaks and lunches.
- When on duty, they wear bright yellow high-visibility jackets and carry radios.
- The yellow jackets make it easy for pupils to quickly identify a senior leader if they need support.
- Senior leaders are available to help with any health and safety, safeguarding or welfare concern.
- Other staff will continue to supervise the site as usual and will wear red high-visibility jackets whilst on duty.
- The combination of red and yellow high-visibility jackets helps ensure pupils can easily find support wherever they are on the college site.

The biggest challenge
Breaktimes and lunchtimes are busy parts of the school day, with pupils spread across a large site. When a concern arises, it is important that pupils know exactly where they can find support and who they can speak to.
Our challenge is ensuring that every pupil feels confident seeking help quickly, whether they are worried about themselves, a friend, or something they have witnessed.
What happens if a pupil needs help?
Senior leaders on duty are available to:
- Respond to health and safety concerns
- Support pupils with safeguarding worries
- Assist with wellbeing concerns
- Help resolve issues before they escalate
- Communicate quickly with other staff using their radios when additional support is needed
Pupils should never feel that a concern is too small to share.
How can you help?
Parents and carers can help by:
- Reminding pupils to seek support when they need it
- Encouraging them to report concerns about themselves or others
- Reassuring them that staff are there to help
- Talking positively about the importance of speaking to trusted adults when something does not feel right
Where can pupils get help?
Pupils can get help by:
- Looking for a member of staff wearing a red high-visibility jacket
- Speaking to any member of the Senior Leadership Team on duty wearing a yellow high-visibility jacket
- Talking to their Form Tutor, Head of Year or another trusted adult
- Reporting concerns about themselves or a friend
If you need help during breaktime or lunchtime, look for a member of staff in a red high-visibility jacket or a senior leader in a yellow high-visibility jacket. Support is always close by.
