Spotlight on... Emergency School Closure Protocols

Some facts for you:

  • Our aim is always to open the school if it is safe to do so.
  • The safety of students and staff is our top priority when considering a closure.
  • When there is weather disruption, a site inspection is carried out by our dedicated site team between 6.30am and 7.00am so we can make an informed decision quickly and minimise disruption.

Communication

If we are unable to open, we will communicate this via an email to parents and carers. Closure details will also be available via:

We encourage families to check these channels on mornings where disruptive weather is expected.

Full details can be found on our dedicated Unexpected School Closure Information page

Learning from Home

Based on our most recent parent survey, we are aware that not all families have access to suitable digital devices at home for learning. For this reason:

  • Class teachers will set work for each timetabled lesson
  • Work will be shared via ClassCharts
  • Tasks will be designed to be completed independently

Transport

Disruptive weather can also affect the running of school buses, and we work closely with transport providers to share any information we receive as quickly as possible on affected days.

Q) The Biggest Challenge?

A) Supporting remote learning

Changes to routine, limited access to devices, shared spaces, and uncertainty around closures can all make it harder for students to stay focused and motivated. We understand that learning at home does not always replicate the structure and support of the school day.

Our aim during closures is therefore to:

  • Provide clear, manageable work
  • Maintain realistic expectations
  • Support students in staying connected to their learning as best they can

How can you help?

Parental support plays an important role in helping students engage with learning during a closure. You can help by:

  • Encouraging your child to check ClassCharts and be aware of their timetabled tasks
  • Helping them establish a simple routine, even if this differs from a normal school day
  • Reassuring them that effort matters more than perfection during unexpected disruption
  • Letting us know if access to learning is particularly difficult, so we can offer guidance where possible

We appreciate that families will have different circumstances, and any support you are able to provide is valued.
