Board Games

Warhammer Club

Image shows a 4 different painted Warhammer figures As well as learning to play the incredibly popular tabletop game Warhammer, you will design, build and paint your own miniatures and scenery - something that has become a popular art form in the gaming community.

We will explore how to create a visually impactful display, design a structure that will support itself, and learn miniature building techniques. The result will be a handmade miniature diorama that you have designed, painted and built yourself, which you can use in Warhammer or other tabletop games and to display your own miniatures!

This activity will improve:

Chess Club

Darts

For the Love of Books!

If so, this is the group for you! Whether there is a particular genre you prefer, or you are keen to read something new, we know you will love the chance to relax, recline and read. In addition, there will be activities for you to enjoy such as meeting an author or publisher, creative book art, making film trailers, quizzes and sharing your enjoyment of books.

Marvel Club

There will be a range of creative tasks and discussions across the term that will explore/challenge stereotypes in the heroes and villains of the MCU, with the potential to create a short film combining your knowledge and skills. There will be opportunities to develop this knowledge through the various Marvel TV shows and films that make up the MCU. Swanmore, assemble!

Radio Controlled Cars

Image shows 2 radio controlled cars catching some air as they go over bumps in the racing trackRadio-controlled 1/10th race cars. Working in a small team you will learn to drive, maintain and make each car perform to its optimum. In conjunction with TORCH racing, you will learn to race competitively, initially undertaking a driving course aimed at developing your technique. Once you have mastered controlling the cars you will then compete in a series of fast-paced time trial challenges and races on a professional BRCA-approved track.

You will have the opportunity along the way to consider the design of racetracks and the elements that make an effective race team, all whilst working within your team to aim to secure a podium finish.

Esports

They will research professional Esports teams, exploring their strategies, branding, and success stories, before creating their own team.

Participants will hone their skills in popular games such as EA FC Club 25, Rocket League, and Fortnite, developing both gameplay techniques and coaching abilities. The enrichment aims to foster teamwork, strategic thinking, and leadership, while giving pupils a taste of the rapidly growing esports industry.

This activity will improve:

Mental wellbeing, social skills, literacy, confidence and co-ordination.

Comic Book Creation

Image shows someone sketching the word boom in a comic book styleAre you a comic book fan or just someone who has a story to tell? If so, this enrichment may be for you. During this enrichment, we will work on creating a short story, character concepts, composition and storyboarding, and finally creating a short comic book of your own. No art talent is required as all levels are welcome; all you need is the will to learn and to create.

This activity will: 

Give you the opportunity to make new friends, improve your literacy/creativity and art skills, work towards a deadline and find out more about the processes involved in creating a comic book.

Want to shape how everyone sees Swanmore College? This is your chance to be part of something big! We're launching two exciting Enrichment activities that will put you at the heart of telling our College's story. If you're in Years 7-10, and you're creative, curious, and keen to develop some seriously impressive skills, read on!

What is Swan Life Press?

"Swan Life Press" is all about capturing the energy, the achievements, and the everyday brilliance of our College. We're creating two dynamic teams of pupils who will work together to produce high-quality content that will be shared across a variety of platforms. This isn't just about school projects; it's about real-world experience, creative collaboration, and showcasing your talents to a wide audience – pupils, staff, parents, and the wider community.

You'll get to work on real commissions from across the College, from Heads of Year to different departments, as well as having the opportunity to develop and deliver your own creative projects. Your work could be featured on the College website, social media channels, in College publications, and even in physical displays around the College. Imagine your photos, videos, articles, and designs being seen by everyone!

Both teams will collaborate on the overall "Swan Life Press" project, but each will have a slightly different focus, allowing you to develop your specific skills and interests.

Swan Life Press Creators :- Content and Journalism

You'll be given assignments to interview key people, report on College events, and uncover the stories that make Swanmore special. You'll also be:

  • Recording and presenting videos
  • Recording podcasts
  • Presenting your work to the camera
  • Capturing stunning photographs
  • Writing articles

You'll work closely with the Production Team to integrate your stories into compelling content for a variety of platforms.

This team is ideal for anyone who wants to:

Develop their skills in journalism, photojournalism, video production, interviewing, presenting, and writing. Whether you're a beginner or already have some experience, we want to hear from you!

Swan Life Press Producers:- Media and Design

Image shows video editing software being used on a computer screenDo you have an eye for design and a passion for bringing content to life? This team will focus on the visual impact of "Swan Life."

You'll learn how to:

  • Collate and curate images, graphics, videos, podcasts and written content
  • Master industry-standard software, including Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop
  • Design layouts for digital and print media
  • Edit videos and podcasts
  • Format and post text for a range of audiences

You'll collaborate with the Creators Team to ensure that all "Swan Life" content is presented in a dynamic and impactful way. Your work will be seen across a variety of media, including the College website, social media, and printed publications. You may also get the chance to work on content for external websites such as the Rural Schools Alliance and Swanmore Leisure, and events such as SwanFest.

This team is perfect for anyone who wants to: 

Develop their skills in graphic design, digital media production, video and audio editing, and visual communication. Whether you're a complete beginner or already have some experience with multimedia platforms, we'll help you take your skills to the next level.

The Formula One Enrichment Club

Running over the course of a full term, pupils will delve into aspects of race strategy, car design, branding, geography, and data interpretation, all grounded in the high-profile, media-rich context of F1. Through interactive tasks and a fantasy league challenge, students will not only explore how Formula One operates as a global sport but also gain insight into its portrayal in the media and its wider cultural impact.

This activity will improve : Oracy, Social skills, Literacy and Confidence.
