A brilliant afternoon of summer sport saw Swanmore College pupils secure victories across basketball and tennis, alongside standout athletics performances and the start of the cricket season.

Our Under 16 Boys Basketball Team delivered an outstanding performance in the District Plate Final at Solent University, defeating Toynbee School 84–67 in a thrilling high-scoring contest. The boys played superbly throughout, scoring key baskets at important moments to take control of the game against determined opposition who never gave up. A special mention goes to Matty, whose consistent three-point shooting was a standout feature of the match. Congratulations to the entire team on a fantastic achievement.

Unbeaten Start for Swanmore Tennis Teams

There was more success on the tennis courts as both our Year 9 and 10 Boys and Girls Tennis Teams made winning starts to their FAGE LTA Youth Schools league campaigns at Swanmore Lawn Tennis Club.

Playing in sunny conditions at a fantastic venue, the boys team hosted Oaklands School and produced a dominant display, not losing a single game across the fixture. The girls team followed with an equally impressive performance, also defeating Oaklands School without losing a match. A brilliant effort from both teams and an excellent start to the season.

Standout Performances at St Swithun’s Athletics Meets

Athletics pupils also impressed at two separate meets held at St Swithun’s School. Our Year 7 and 8 athletes competed in a range of track and field events in a friendly but competitive atmosphere, producing several standout performances including first place finishes for Max E (600m), Max N (Shot put), Fin (Long Jump) and Ellis (100m)!

Earlier in the week, our Year 9 and 10 Athletics Team travelled to Winchester for their first athletics meet of summer. Pupils competed in sprinting, jumping and throwing events, with highlights including Dylan winning the Shot Put, Sophie also winning the Shot Put and Imogen winning her race convincingly.

The event also marked the first outing for our new athletics vests, kindly sponsored by Alpha Fitness Hampshire. We are extremely grateful for their support.

Valuable Opening Fixture for Under 13 Cricket Team

Batting first, the team posted a total of 60 runs and showed great determination throughout the game. Despite a strong performance from the opposition, who reached the target without losing a wicket, the match provided a valuable learning experience for the team as they continue to develop during the season.

Well done to every pupil who represented Swanmore College this week. Your effort, teamwork and sportsmanship continue to make the school proud.
