Swanmore Sports Weekly Roundup: w/c 07 July 2025

It's been another fantastic week for sport at Swanmore College, across a range of activities. From visiting Wimbledon to achieving top results in district athletics and gaining our School Games Mark award, there's been plenty to celebrate!
Wimbledon Experiences for Swanmore Tennis Stars
On Friday, 04 July, some of our talented pupils who have represented Swanmore College in the LTA Youth Schools Tennis League fixtures enjoyed an unforgettable day at Wimbledon. They spent the day on Number 2 Court, treated to some amazing matches. It was a truly enjoyable experience for all.
Last week, on Friday, even more of our wonderful pupils who have played tennis at the College this summer term had the chance to visit Wimbledon. They experienced the famous queue and accessed Wimbledon with a Grounds Pass ticket. Despite the hot weather, it was a very enjoyable day, with pupils purchasing souvenirs, getting autographs, and watching play on various courts, including taking a spot on Henman Hill/Murray Mound to watch the Men's Semi-Finals. This was a wonderful way to conclude a very enjoyable tennis season at Swanmore this Summer Term.
Year 8 Rounders Friendly at Deer Park School
On Monday, some of our Year 8 pupils who have been diligently attending Rounders Club this summer term travelled to Deer Park School for a friendly game. The match was competitive, with both teams scoring numerous rounders in a very pleasant atmosphere. Although Deer Park ultimately won the game, our team made us incredibly proud. Evie was deservedly voted player of the match. Well done to everyone involved!
Outstanding Performances at Hampshire Athletics Championships
On Tuesday, four of our pupils proudly represented the Eastleigh & Winchester District Team at the Year 7 and 8 Hampshire Athletics Championships. Finlay, Ellis, and Max competed in the U13 category, while Imogen competed in the U14 category. Our athletes performed exceptionally well, with Finlay winning the Long Jump, Ellis winning the 200m, Max finishing 4th in the Shot Put, and Imogen finishing 3rd in the 1500m. All of their incredible efforts contributed to the Eastleigh & District Team finishing 1st overall out of the 10 districts that competed. We are incredibly proud of all our athletes. We would also like to extend a special well done to our Year 10 Sports Leaders who attended the event and provided invaluable assistance with its running.
Swanmore College Sports Day 2024/25
Wednesday saw the highly anticipated Sports Day for the 2024/25 Academic Year. Throughout the school year, pupils have been involved in Inter-House Competitions during their PE lessons, earning points for their respective Houses. On Sports Day, pupils had the exciting opportunity during periods 1, 2, 3, and 4 to participate in more competitions across a variety of sports including Football (Boys & Girls), Netball, Rounders, Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, and Javelin. The afternoon was dedicated to thrilling athletic races on the track and a spirited Tug of War event. The final results were as follows: Attenborough took first place with 488 points, followed by Whittle in second with 430 points, Hawking in third with 381 points, and MacArthur in fourth with 345 points. Congratulations to all who participated and contributed to a fantastic day!
Cricket Teams Show Resilience in Finals Matches
Last Friday, our cricket teams travelled to Ampfield Cricket Club to participate in two finals matches, concluding the 2024/25 Cricket season – a remarkable achievement for both teams. Our Year 7 team batted second, chasing a strong total set by Deer Park. The team needed 40 runs from the last 4 overs to win, and incredibly narrowed it down to just 7 runs from 5 balls, but unfortunately lost by a narrow margin of 4 runs. The Under 15 team lost by 7 wickets, but the boys demonstrated great effort by taking the game to the 14th over (playing 16 overs a side). Luke and Cameron performed particularly well, with Luke taking 2 wickets for 19 runs and achieving 21 runs not out batting. Despite not securing the wins we hoped for, both of our teams were an absolute credit to the College.
Swanmore College Achieves Gold School Games Mark 2024/25
We are delighted to announce that Swanmore College has earned the Gold 2024/25 School Games Mark! This government-led award scheme celebrates schools' commitment to developing competitive sport within their school and community. It allows schools to assess their PE provision and create an action plan for improvement. This achievement reflects our dedication to maintaining and increasing engagement in the School Games, ensuring every child gets 60 active minutes per day (20 minutes for SEND pupils), and organising competitions that provide positive experiences tailored to our pupils' motivation, confidence, and abilities. We are also proud of our focus on key transition points, supporting the personal development of targeted pupils through youth engagement and leadership, and providing equal opportunities for all young people, regardless of gender.
