Swanmore College pupils have continued to impress across a busy week of sporting fixtures, with strong performances in basketball, tennis and athletics competitions across Hampshire.
Under 14 Boys Reach District Basketball Final
The Under 14 Boys Basketball Team travelled to Solent University for their District Cup Final against Crestwood School, marking Swanmore’s second basketball final appearance in just one week.
In a challenging match where every member of the team contributed to the scoreline, Crestwood ultimately secured victory. Although disappointed not to lift the trophy, the team can be extremely proud of finishing runners-up, an impressive achievement for the squad.
Tennis Teams Build Momentum
Swanmore’s tennis teams have enjoyed a busy and encouraging week in their FAGE LTA Youth Schools Competition campaigns.
One of the College’s Year 9 and 10 Boys Teams began their season with a trip to Bohunt School. After the doubles matches were evenly split, Bohunt secured victory through the singles games to win the fixture 10–2. Despite the result, Swanmore’s players competed well in a closely contested match and showed excellent determination throughout.
A second Year 9 and 10 Boys Team continued their strong form with an impressive 8–4 victory away at The Petersfield School, producing a series of strong singles and doubles performances.
The Year 7 and 8 Boys Team also enjoyed a positive week of fixtures. The boys first hosted Thornden School in a closely contested match featuring several tight sets. Although Thornden were eventual winners, Ailbe earned a special mention after winning his singles match.
The team then travelled to Bohunt School in Liphook and produced an excellent performance to claim an 8–4 victory, winning four of their six matches across singles and doubles play.
Athletics Teams Compete Across Hampshire
Swanmore athletes have also been competing strongly in regional athletics competitions.
The Under 15 Boys and Girls Teams recently travelled to Oaklands Catholic School for the Hampshire Schools Athletics Track Knock-Out competition. Both teams finished fourth overall after competing across a range of track events.
Standout performances included Arthur finishing second in the 300m, alongside third-place finishes from Milo, Elliot, Arthur, Amelia and Arabella.
Meanwhile, the Year 7 Athletics Team travelled to The Petersfield School for the first round of the Year 7 Track Knock-Out competition, competing against Springfield, Oaklands, Perins and Petersfield. Final standings are still being confirmed to determine whether Swanmore’s teams have progressed to the next round.
Well done to all pupils who have represented the College so positively across this busy and successful period of sporting competition.
