The Autumn term has kicked off with fantastic energy and commitment across all year groups in the PE department. From triumphant league debuts to inspiring achievements from a former pupil, the spirit of sport is truly alive at the College. Read on for a round-up of all the sporting action up to Friday, 26 September.

Extracurricular Clubs and Fixture Communication

Extracurricular sports clubs are now well underway, providing pupils with a wide range of sports options both at lunchtime and after school. We would love to see more pupils join in!

Pupils should come in their school PE uniform, change in the S-block changing rooms, and register at the start of the session. You can find the full club list here on the website: Swanmore College - College Clubs.

Please be aware that as fixtures and events start, there is a possibility that club days may change or sessions may need to be cancelled. We will always notify pupils, parents, and carers of any changes via our weekly PE Bulletin.

We are now using ClassCharts to communicate with parents and carers about upcoming fixtures. This excellent system allows us to send fixture invitations directly to you, and you can give your consent for your child's participation easily within the app. If you need to download the app or would like more information, please follow this link: Swanmore College - ClassCharts.

Sam Charig Represents Team GB at World University Games

We want to send a huge shout-out to former Swanmore College pupil, Sam Charig (Year 11 leaver in 2018), who recently represented Team GB in the 1500m at The World University Games in Germany!

Sam's running journey began at Swanmore Primary School and continued with great success whilst at Swanmore College, where he represented the College and the county in middle-distance races. He was greatly encouraged by the PE department, including Mr Broadway, Mr Stapleton, and the still-present Mrs Richards.

Since leaving the College, Sam has successfully combined his academic studies and running on the Sports Scholar programs at both Bath and St Mary's Universities. After overcoming several minor injuries over the years, 2025 has been a standout year for Sam. His achievements include:

  • Gold and Bronze medals in the British University indoor and outdoor events.

  • Bronze medals in the 1500m at both the World University Games and the recent British Championships.

  • Achieving multiple personal bests (PBs) and successes on the European Senior circuit.

Sam's parents shared their thanks for all the support and encouragement he received during his time at the College. It is fantastic to hear of his continued achievements and how his hard work is truly paying off.

On the week commencing Monday, 15 September, our Year 8 Boys Rugby Team travelled to Embley Park School for a development match. The team faced a challenging game but showed tremendous resilience and tackled exceptionally well. Despite losing by five tries, this was a valuable and important experience for the team as they develop their skills.

Football: Debut Wins and Valiant Efforts

Year 7 Boys Secure Dominant Debut Win

Our Year 7 Boys Football Team made a superb Swanmore debut on Monday, 22 September, in a league match against Perins School. After a dominant first half, the team found the net three times. Their objective in the second half was to keep a clean sheet, which they achieved successfully, whilst also adding two more goals to the tally. The final score was 5-0 to the College! Goalscorers were Harrison (2), Oliver (2), and Reuben (1). A brilliant start to the league campaign!

Also, on Monday, 22 September, our Year 11 Boys Football team travelled to Mountbatten School for the start of their league campaign. It was not the result they were hoping for against a strong Mountbatten side. The standout player for the College was Goalkeeper Lenny, whose excellent performance prevented the score from being higher than it was. We look forward to seeing them bounce back in the next match.

Year 7 Girls Debut

The Year 7 Girls Football team made their College debut on Tuesday, 23 September, playing a League game against Perins School. The girls worked hard and competed well throughout, but unfortunately lost 7-2 to a very strong Perins side. Scorers for the College were Holly and Eefie.

Our Year 9 Boys Football Team played their first league game of the season on Wednesday, 24 September, hosting Toynbee School. In what was an even contest, our team pushed hard for an equaliser after going 2-1 down in the final few minutes. Unfortunately, two late goals from Toynbee meant the game ended in a 4-1 defeat. Alistair was the goalscorer for the College. A valiant effort from the boys.

Netball: U13 Girls Start Strong

Our U13 Girls Netball Team started their season on Tuesday, 23 September, with a trip to The Petersfield School. The team played a great game, narrowly losing 8-4. Attacker of the match was Marianna, and defender of the match was Rebecca. A superb effort, girls!

Showcasing Our Facilities at Open Evening

Last Thursday, we had the opportunity to showcase some of our amazing sports facilities during our Open Evening. It was wonderful to welcome Year 5/6 pupils and their parents, and to see them engage with the various activities we had set up. A huge thank you to our fantastic Year 10 Sports Leaders, who were incredible in assisting the PE Department throughout the evening.
