Pupils put their language skills and creativity into action as we celebrated European Day of Languages.

Languages and landmarks take centre stage

Over the last week, pupils at Swanmore College joined schools across Europe in celebrating European Day of Languages.

As part of the celebrations, some pupils in Modern Foreign Languages lessons put their geographical knowledge to the test with a special ‘Name the landmarks’ activity, identifying famous sights from across Europe.

On Friday lunchtime, the Main Hall hosted a showcase of European landmarks created by pupils. The impressive models included two particularly recognisable sights – the Eiffel Tower and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

In Connect, pupils explored the importance of learning other languages, discussing how language helps us communicate with people from different backgrounds, understand other cultures and discover new opportunities.

From testing their geographical knowledge to getting creative and exploring the value of language learning, it was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to discover more about the languages, cultures and places that make Europe so diverse.
