Celebrating National Poetry Day

Swanmore College has been celebrating poetry throughout the week in honour of National Poetry Day, with a special visit from local poet Graham Langley and an exciting creative writing opportunity for our Key Stage 3 pupils.

On Tuesday, 29 September, Graham delivered an assembly to Year 9 pupils, sharing Wonder, a bespoke poem he wrote especially for Swanmore College.

Inspired by the theme of 'wonder', pupils across Key Stage 3 have been given the opportunity to write their own poems, with dedicated lesson time set aside this week for pupils to develop their poems as part of a mini-enrichment project.

A selection of the most thoughtfully produced poems will be submitted to the Young Writers' annual competition, giving pupils the exciting opportunity to see their work published.

We look forward to seeing how our pupils interpret the theme of 'wonder' and the creativity they bring to their writing!
