Our junior debating teams impressed the judges with confident performances at the PGS Debating Festival.

A winning performance at the PGS Debating Festival

Swanmore College pupils put their debating skills to the test as they represented the College at the PGS Debating Festival – with fantastic results!

Our junior teams swept the board, winning both of their debates and impressing the judges with the quality of their performances.

Debating requires pupils to think carefully about how they communicate their ideas, building clear and well-structured arguments while also listening closely and responding to the points made by their opponents. Our pupils rose brilliantly to the challenge, with judges particularly praising their calm and clear delivery, well-structured speeches and challenging Points of Information.

Taking part in opportunities like the PGS Debating Festival gives pupils the chance to put the skills they develop through enrichment into practice in a competitive setting, while building confidence in public speaking, critical thinking and responding under pressure.

A huge congratulations to Amelia S, Emils K, Greta L, Patrick L, Lucy M and Alice, who represented Swanmore so brilliantly.

We would also like to say a big thank you to Miss Tymon, who leads Debating as part of our Enrichment programme, for supporting and preparing our pupils for the event.

We are incredibly proud of what they achieved – well done to all!
