The final week before half term was packed with sporting opportunities for Swanmore pupils, with teams competing across the region and GCSE PE students gaining a valuable insight into the world of sports science at university level.

GCSE PE Students Visit Solent University

Our Year 10 GCSE PE pupils enjoyed an exciting visit to Solent University, organised by Mr Doncom, to explore what studying sport at university looks like.

The left-hand side shows part of a university building with a large wall graphic displaying a quote about creating and innovating in Southampton. The right-hand side contains the Southampton Solent University logo, consisting of white text reading "Southampton Solent University" inside a large red circle on a light grey background.Throughout the day, pupils took part in a range of practical sports science activities, including grip strength testing, reaction time assessments, virtual reality testing, counter movement jump analysis and vision-impaired basketball shooting. They also experienced a VO2 Max test set at world-record marathon pace, while student nurses were on hand to take pupils' blood pressure upon arrival.

The visit provided a fascinating insight into the scientific side of sport and exercise, helping pupils understand the opportunities available to them beyond school. Impressively, some of our pupils achieved results that surpassed those of university students!

A huge thank you to Solent University for hosting such an engaging and informative day.

Three balls are grouped beneath the racket head, with a fourth ball positioned separately in the foreground. The racket lies on the court surface with its strings and frame clearly visible. Trees, fencing and a blue sky with clouds appear blurred in the background. Our Year 7 and 8 Girls Tennis Team travelled to Winchester Rackets & Fitness Club to compete against The Westgate School in a league fixture as part of the LTA Schools Competition.

Played in excellent weather at a fantastic venue, the fixture provided a valuable challenge for the team, with a number of closely contested matches throughout the afternoon. Despite a determined performance from our players, Westgate secured the overall victory, with their top seeds proving particularly strong opponents.

Well done to all the girls for representing the College so positively.

Well done to all the athletes involved and good luck as we wait for the results.
