The event brought together DofE leaders, volunteers and participants from across the country to celebrate the impact the award has had on generations of young people.

Mrs Illsley attended in recognition of the many former pupils who have completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards through her Open Award Centre, helping young people continue their DofE journey.

The day began with an early 5am start before travelling to London for the celebration, which included time in the Buckingham Palace gardens alongside guests from across the UK.

The visit celebrated not only 70 years of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, but also the lasting impact that dedicated staff and volunteers can have on young people long after they leave school.

We are delighted that Mrs Illsley and Mr Keenan had the opportunity to attend such a special celebration

"We both felt extremely proud that past members of our school community felt that their journey that started here, was worthy of finishing with our very own Mrs Illsley."
