Announcing our next Year 7 MFL Parent Workshop: Preparing for Assesments

We are pleased to invite parents and carers of Year 7 pupils to attend our upcoming summer MFL Parent Workshop, focusing on preparing for assessments.
Year 7 MFL Parent Workshop: Preparing for Assessments
Following the success of previous workshops, we are delighted to announce that the next session will be held on Thursday, 21 May 2026 at 6:00pm in SO2 at Swanmore College, and is open to all parents and carers of Year 7 pupils studying French or Spanish. Pupils are welcome to attend, although this is not essential.
The workshop will focus on preparing for the Year 7 MFL summer assessment, helping families to better understand how languages are taught at Swanmore and how best to support learning at home. During the session, we will explain the structure of the assessment, the skills being assessed, and how pupils can use previous assessments to identify and address gaps in their learning.
Parents and carers are encouraged to bring along a previous assessment (Autumn and/or Spring) and their child’s Knowledge Organiser, as these will be used as part of the session.
Why attend?
This workshop is a valuable opportunity to gain a clear understanding of how to support your child not only in Year 7, but as they progress through Years 8 and 9. Our MFL curriculum follows a consistent structure, meaning the strategies you learn will continue to be relevant throughout your child’s language learning journey.
Feedback from previous workshops highlights the impact these sessions can have:
The MFL workshop I attended at the start of Year 7 was a real eye-opener and I learnt so much. Despite having an older pupil in Year 9, the workshop showed me I hadn’t necessarily been helping that much!
I now know how to make effective use of the time my children spend on their language homework, and I fully understand how languages are taught at Swanmore.
I am looking forward to the next workshop, which I understand will focus on revision for end of year assessments – this will be invaluable for both my year 7 and year 9 pupil, as they go into GCSEs.
We hope you are able to join us for what promises to be an informative and supportive session.
