Exploring faith and tradition at Winchester Cathedral

Our Year 10 GCSE Religious Studies pupils recently enjoyed a memorable and enriching visit to Winchester Cathedral, bringing their classroom learning to life in a truly inspiring setting.
The day began with a guided tour led by expert staff at the cathedral. Pupils had the opportunity to explore the building’s remarkable architecture and learn more about its significance within British Christianity. From the scale of the nave to the intricate details of the medieval stained glass, there was plenty to take in, and pupils engaged thoughtfully with the history and symbolism throughout.
A key highlight was the Eucharist demonstration, bringing to life this important Christian sacrament. Seeing the ritual in action helped deepen their understanding of its meaning
Pupils also took part in a question and answer session with a priest, which proved to be a particularly valuable experience. They asked a range of thoughtful and perceptive questions, exploring topics such as faith, belief, and the role of the Church of England in modern society. It was a great opportunity for pupils to connect their learning to real-world perspectives and deepen their understanding beyond the classroom.
Throughout the visit, our pupils represented Swanmore College exceptionally well. They showed genuine curiosity, asked insightful questions, and demonstrated respect for the space and those around them.
Experiences like this play an important role in helping pupils to see the relevance of their studies and to engage more deeply with different beliefs and viewpoints. We are very proud of how Year 10 approached the day and the maturity they showed throughout.
Well done, Year 10.
