Last week was a fantastic showcase of sport and outdoor learning at Swanmore College, with pupils celebrating victories, tournament success and new challenges across football, netball and climbing.
Netball Success for Year 7 and Year 8
Our Year 7 and Year 8 Girls’ Netball teams hosted Toynbee School on Monday in a league fixture played in excellent spirit and a fantastic atmosphere, helped by the spring sunshine.
The Year 8 team secured an impressive 8–6 victory, with Eva and Molly voted Swanmore Players of the Match.
The Year 7 team also won convincingly, 14–3. Although played as a friendly due to the opposition not having a full team, the match showcased excellent teamwork and skill. Lila and Genevieve were voted Swanmore Players of the Match.
Later in the week, an Under 12 (Year 7) Girls’ Netball team travelled to Thornden School in Chandler’s Ford to compete in a tournament. The team delivered a strong set of performances, winning two matches, drawing three and losing two.
Flavia and Maggie were named Swanmore Players of the Tournament.
Football Victories for the Swans
Our Year 10/11 Girls’ Football team hosted The Mountbatten School in a District League fixture. The team produced a fantastic performance, securing a 3–0 victory. Goals were scored by Mia, Sienna B and Emilia M.
The match was also filmed to support assessment work for Year 11 GCSE PE and Cambridge National Sports Studies pupils, providing a valuable learning opportunity alongside the competitive fixture.
On Thursday, our Year 10 Boys’ Football team welcomed Romsey School for a District League match. In a dominant display with some clinical finishing, Swanmore secured all three points in a convincing win.
Goals came from Luke (4), Henry (2), Jamie, Levi and Alfie.
County Finals Glory for Year 8 Girls’ Football
One of the standout moments of the week came as our Year 8 Girls’ Football team competed in the Hampshire School Games 7-a-side County Finals at Stoneham Sports Complex, having qualified with a tournament victory at Wyvern School before half term.
After a series of competitive group matches, the team showed great determination to reach the knockout stages. A perfect 5 out of 5 penalties in a shootout secured their place in the semi-finals.
A 1–0 semi-final victory, with a goal from Lucy and outstanding saves from Scarlett, sent the team through to the final. After a tense 0–0 draw, the match was decided by penalties once again. The team held their nerve, scoring every penalty, while Scarlett produced another superb save to secure victory.
The girls were crowned Champions, representing Swanmore with great commitment and determination. Goals during the tournament were scored by Louisa, Lucy, Grace, Mollie and Florence.
Outdoor Adventure for Year 10
Alongside the competitive fixtures, our Year 10 Cambridge Nationals Sports Studies pupils visited Tile Barn in Brockenhurst to complete a climbing assessment as part of their R187 Outdoor and Adventurous Activities unit.
Pupils learned essential climbing skills, including how to safely use equipment such as harnesses and how to belay to support climbers. Despite challenging weather conditions later in the day, pupils demonstrated excellent attitude and effort throughout.
Assessments focused on climbing technique, communication, listening skills and the ability to follow health and safety procedures.
A Week to Be Proud Of
It was a fantastic week showcasing the skill, determination and positive attitude of Swanmore pupils, both in competitive sport and outdoor learning. Well done to everyone who took part and represented the College with such pride.
