Peace and conflict

Overview:

This unit focuses on the morality of violent conflict using a number of wars as case studies. Pupils will then apply faith principles from a plurality of religions as well as secular ideas to consider the justification of war against that of pacifism.

Keywords:

Just war

A war that is deemed to be morally or theologically justifiable.

Peace

A state or period in which there is no war or a war has ended.

War

A state of armed conflict between different countries or different groups within a country.

Pacifism

The belief that war and violence are unjustifiable and that all disputes should be settled by peaceful means.
