Year 10 Geographers Put Classroom Learning into Practice
Last week, our Year 10 Geography pupils took part in a fieldwork visit to Hill Head and Whiteley, applying their classroom learning to real-world environments.
The day began at Hill Head, where pupils investigated whether the area's sea defences are effective at protecting the coastline. Working in small groups, they collected a range of data and observations to help them evaluate the success of different coastal management strategies.
The visit then moved to Whiteley Shopping Centre, where pupils explored the impact of regeneration on the local area. Using a variety of fieldwork techniques, they assessed how successful the development has been and considered its economic, social and environmental effects.
Throughout the day, pupils demonstrated excellent engagement with the fieldwork, gathering evidence, analysing their surroundings and developing the skills needed for their GCSE Geography studies.
As well as collecting valuable data, pupils were also able to observe a variety of wildlife along the coastline, adding an extra dimension to their investigations.
