Another fantastic week for Swanmore College sports is in the books! From impressive victories on the court and pitch to outstanding individual performances and community spirit, our pupils have once again showcased their dedication and talent. Read on for all the highlights from the past week's action.

 

Athletics: On Track for Success!

Our Athletics Club continues to be a hub of activity every Thursday after school, providing a fantastic opportunity for pupils to hone their skills in track and field events. We've already seen some superb performances at recent fixtures, and it's clear our pupils are benefiting from the practice.

Image shows members of the Under 13 Athletics track knockout teamLast Thursday, our Year 7 Athletics Team truly shone at the Track Knockout 1st Round, held at The Petersfield School. Every athlete contributed valuable points, with our girls' team securing 4th place and the boys' team finishing 1st! Both teams have now qualified for the semi-finals after half-term – a brilliant achievement!

Looking ahead, we're incredibly proud to announce that several Swanmore athletes have received invitations to significant upcoming events. Good luck to Holly who will be participating in the Hampshire Pentathlon Championships on Thursday, May 22nd. Additionally, Zac (400m), Imogen (800m), and Poppy (High Jump) will be representing the Eastleigh and Winchester District in the Hampshire Schools Championships on Saturday, June 14th. We wish them all the very best!


Tennis: Serving Up Wins!

Our tennis teams have been on top form this week, demonstrating skill and determination on the court.

On Friday, 17 May, our Year 9/10 Boys' Tennis team faced Boundary Oak in an LTA Youth Schools Tennis fixture. The boys delivered a fantastic performance, winning 5 out of 6 games, including both singles and doubles matches. Well played, boys!

We fielded two teams, with one securing an impressive 5-1 victory! For some pupils, this was their first time representing Swanmore College in a tennis fixture, making the experience even more valuable. A great effort from all the boys involved.

A win is a win!


Cricket: A Strong Start to the Season!

The cricket season is officially underway, and our teams have hit the ground running with some outstanding performances.

Swanmore batted first, putting on a total of 114 from 16 overs, with Josh and Henry both retiring on 30 and 32 runs respectively. Wyvern could only manage 100 from their 16 overs, thanks in no small part to Cameron's excellent bowling, securing 2 wickets from his 2 overs. A fantastic winning start to the season!

The team played exceptionally well, with accurate bowling and sensible batting leading to a well-deserved 16-run victory. Congratulations to all who played!

Image shows members of the Under 15 boys cricket team who played the island free schoolOur U15 Cricket Team continued their winning ways on Wednesday, hosting The Island Free School from the Isle of Wight in a Hampshire Cup game. After losing the toss and being put into bat, Swanmore posted a strong total of 108 runs. Both Josh and Luke delivered fantastic batting displays, retiring at 30 and 32 runs respectively. The Island Free School were all bowled out for 92, with Cameron once again leading the charge, taking an incredible 4 wickets from 3 overs to seal another victory for Swanmore College. The team will now face Thornden School in the next round after half term – well done, team!


Student Shout Out: Jessica's Aquathon Achievement!

Sports Leaders: Inspiring the Next Generation!

On Friday, our Year 10 Sports Leaders students demonstrated their leadership skills and community spirit by assisting with Sports Day at Meonstoke CofE Infant School. They received nothing but praise and positive feedback for their fantastic efforts from the various infant schools attending the event. Well done to all our Sports Leaders who helped today – you truly made a difference!
