Why Attendance is a Priority at Swanmore College

Attendance is a key priority both nationally and here at Swanmore College. To help you and your child understand its importance, we will be sharing fortnightly information and tips on everything to do with attendance.
This first piece is about why excellent attendance is important and the benefits that regular attendance has for your child's education and wellbeing.
Building Positive Relationships
Regular attendance allows your child to build positive and lasting relationships with their friends and their teachers. These relationships are fundamental to a positive and successful school experience..
Safeguarding
Ensuring the safety of all pupils is our main priority. Regular attendance is key to our safeguarding processes, allowing us to ensure the wellbeing of every child in our care.
A Sense of Belonging
We want every pupil to feel a sense of belonging at Swanmore College. When pupils feel connected to their school community, they are more likely to attend regularly and participate in all aspects of college life.
Mental, Physical, and Social Health
Attending College regularly provides pupils with opportunities to socialise with their friends, take part in active lessons, and feel a sense of achievement. All of these contribute to improved mental, physical, and social health.
Attainment
There is a strong and clear link between higher attendance and higher average attainment. Missing just one day of College means a pupil will miss up to six lessons, which can have a significant impact on their learning and academic progress over time.
Creating Good Routines
Creating good routines with regular, high attendance to start the year with sets a strong tone and positive culture for the rest of the year. This helps pupils to be more prepared and engaged throughout their time at Swanmore College.
