Peer Heroes Competition

Information for Parent/Carer

What Is the Peer Heroes Competition?

The Peer Heroes Competition invites young people aged 11–16 to create a piece of work that raises awareness about:

  • Respectful relationships or
  • Positive masculinity or
  • Misogyny and harmful gender stereotypes or
  • Violence against women and girls (VAWG)
  • Or a combination of all of the above!

Through creative expression, such as videos, artwork, posters, podcasts, or written pieces, presentation, lesson plan or anything that could educate their peers. Students are encouraged to take a stand against inequality and promote messages of kindness, fairness, and inclusion.

Entries can be individual or as part of a group.

Why This Matters

Research and experience show that peer-led learning can have a powerful and lasting impact. Young people often look to each other for guidance, and when positive messages come from their peers, they are more likely to listen, reflect, and grow.
By taking part in the competition, students have the opportunity to:

  • Build their confidence and communication skills
  • Reflect on their own values and behaviours
  • Become positive role models within their school and community
  • Be part of a wider effort to create a more respectful and safe environment for everyone
  • Supporting You as Parents and Carers
  • We understand that conversations about topics like gender stereotypes and violence can sometimes feel challenging or unfamiliar. That’s why, throughout the summer term, we’ll be offering virtual drop-in sessions for parents and carers and students.
  • These sessions are a relaxed space where you can:
  • Learn more about the aims of the competition
  • Ask questions or raise any concerns
  • Get practical advice on supporting your child
  • Connect with others and hear from educators and safeguarding professionals

Details of dates and how to join these sessions will be shared on the Peer Heroes Competition site and shared directly with people who have registered to enter.

Working Together

We believe that educating young people about respect and equality is something we do best together, as schools, families, and communities. Your support in encouraging open conversations at home and celebrating your child’s involvement in this project makes a big difference.
