Year 7 - Exploring Physical Literacy
Pupils will explore the concept and understand the importance of 'physical literacy'. Competence, confidence, knowledge and understanding, and motivation are covered to help students realise what underpins physical literacy and how it can be developed.
Sports and physical activities will be rotated across the different classes within the year group, each half term:

Unit 1 - Movement CompetenceCompetencePupils will understand how PE can develop their competence across a variety of activities. PracticePupils will have the opportunity to explore the concept of practice and how it can support learning and development in PE. Skills and TechniquesPupils will understand the difference between skills and techniques and how they apply to PE. Providing FeedbackPupils will learn how to analyse performance in order to provide meaningful and constructive feedback to improve competence in others. Acting on FeedbackPupils will receive feedback and be tasked with acting on that feedback to demonstrate progress. PerformancePupils will understand the term performance in relation to PE and demonstrating competence. |
Unit 2 - ConfidenceConfidencePupils will understand what confidence is and work on building and improving confidence through participation in Sport and Physical Activity. AttitudesPupils will understand what is meant by the term ‘attitudes’ and demonstrate and understanding of how attitudes can have an impact on all challenges faced. Positive approaches to PEPupils will gain an understanding of positive approaches to PE to ensure they get the most from their curriculum. Comfort ZonesPupils will gain insight and understanding to the term comfort zones. They will analyse what they deem to be their own comfort zones and consider the advantages of pushing themselves out of these zones. Unit 4 - MotivationIntrinsic MotivationPupils will have an understanding of intrinsic motivation and the positive benefits of being intrinsically motivated. Extrinsic MotivationPupils will gain an understanding of extrinsic motivation and the positive benefits of being extrinsically motivated. Setting GoalsPupils will continue to develop and demonstrate the tools required to set meaningful and impactful goals. Celebrate ProgressPupils will have an opportunity to celebrate progression, over outcome and reflect on how this is transferable in other aspects of their lives. PersistencePupils will understand what persistence is and demonstrate it when faced with a challenge.
