A Warm Welcome to Our New Year 7 Pupils at Swanmore College Transition Day!

Swanmore College was abuzz with excitement on Thursday, 03 July, as we warmly welcomed Year 6 pupils for their Transition Day! This special day provided a wonderful opportunity for pupils joining us in Year 7 this September to familiarise themselves with life at secondary school, meet key staff, explore our campus, and begin forging new friendships. We are delighted to share more about the day.
The day began in the Main Hall with a welcoming assembly, setting a positive tone for what was to be a busy and engaging day. Our new pupils eagerly participated in introductory tasks before diving into their first taster lessons. They explored 3 of the following subjects throughout the day, including RE, Food Technology, Art, IT, Technology, French, Geography, Spanish, English, and Science, getting a real feel for the diverse curriculum on offer at Swanmore College.
After a productive morning, which included time for reflection on their lessons and new connections, all pupils enjoyed lunch together, a fantastic opportunity to socialise and get to know one another. The afternoon brought a final taster lesson before everyone reassembled in the Main Hall for an end-of-day assembly.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the outstanding Year 9 pupils who dedicated their day to helping our new arrivals navigate the College and feel at ease. Their support was invaluable. A massive thank you also goes to all the wonderful staff who played a vital role in making the day such a resounding success, and to Brooke (Year 7) and Lilly (Year 8) for capturing some truly great photos of the day's activities.
During the end-of-day assembly, Mrs Bushnell, Assistant Head of English, spoke to the pupils about our 'Drop Everything and Read' initiative, which will be an important part of English and Tutor Time next year. She reminded them to bring a reading book to the College daily. Mrs Bushnell also introduced our very own 'Genre Island' Summer Reading Challenge! This exciting initiative encourages pupils to log what they read over the summer and earn positive points (ICCs) for their efforts.
To support your child with their summer reading, the 'Genre Island' document is available for download below. Please note: If you require this document in an alternative format, please email english-help@swanmore-sec.hants.sch.uk to let us know.
