Literacy Week Competition 2025: Celebrating Our Words of the Week

We're excited to announce our Literacy Week Competition, starting today, Monday, 16 June 2025! This year, we're celebrating the richness of language with a creative challenge for all pupils in Years 7 to 10. We hope all pupils will get involved, and we encourage parents and carers to support the great talent we have here at the College.
Beyond simply fostering a love for reading and writing, developing strong literacy skills is fundamental to a pupil's success. It equips them not only to excel in English but also to thrive across all other subjects and prepares them for future challenges in their lives. As part of this commitment, this year's competition theme is "Celebrating Our Words of the Week." Throughout the 2024-25 school year, pupils have explored many interesting words through our 'Word of the Week' initiative, and now it’s time to use those words in a new and exciting way!

Your Creative Challenge
We're inviting all pupils in Years 7 to 10 to get creative and write an original poem or song. Your piece should be inspired by one or more of the 'Word of the Week' entries from this academic year. This is your chance to make those words your own and express yourself! You can focus on a single word that stood out to you, or you can weave multiple words together into your poem or song.
This competition is all about celebrating your unique voice and creativity while also strengthening vital vocabulary and expressive skills. Whether you enjoy rhyme, rhythm, or crafting powerful lyrics, this is your opportunity to show what you can do. Please remember that all submissions must be your own original work; using AI tools like ChatGPT is not allowed.
