Pastoral Care

Swanmore prides itself on being a caring community.  Every effort is made to support individual pupils throughout their time with us and to address the personal and social needs of each one.

On entering the college in Year 7 pupils will experience an Induction Process which is designed to put the pupils at their ease whilst exciting them about secondary education and the opportunities it creates.

Year 7 pupils are placed in the care of specialist Year 7 tutors who act as mentors and pastoral guides during the pupils’ first year at Swanmore.  They are supported in this by KS4 Peer Mentors.

Year 7 is co-ordinated by the Director of Year 7 and it is this person who will have the majority of contact with the parents of these pupils.

From Year 8 to Year 11 the pupils pastoral care moves into the House System.  In each of the Houses there are 10 House Tutor Groups containing a mixture of pupils from the four year groups and pupils are encouraged to support each other under the guidance of the dedicated House Tutor.

The care role of the House Tutor is to mentor and support their tutees whilst closely monitoring academic progress and social development.

An Assistant Headteacher, Mrs Chadderton, is dedicated to all issues pertaining to pupil welfare, conduct and protection.

At Swanmore we benefit enormously from the open and rewarding ‘Triangular Relationships’ between pupils, parents and staff.  The strength of these links support the academic progress and personalised development of our young people and therefore, we welcome and encourage communication between home and college.
