Mathematics at Swanmore College of Technology is an exciting, challenging and rewarding subject for pupils of all abilities.

All pupils follow a stimulating personalised curriculum which prepares them for the outside world, supports their learning in other subjects and provides a platform for further mathematical study.

The delivery of Mathematics aims to develop confident, independent thinkers who can work collaboratively and creatively to solve mathematical problems. We promote a safe and open learning environment where risk-taking and mistakes are encouraged and used as a developmental learning process.

Acquiring Specialist Status in Technology has had an immediate and sustained impact on the quality of teaching and learning in Mathematics. All Mathematics classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards which are used in every lesson.

Key Stage 3 pupils use a wide range of interactive activities, within their lessons. These include functional skills tasks which require the pupils to apply Mathematics in real-life contexts. Key Stage 4 pupils have access to an extensive variety of interactive resources including exam packages, graphics calculators and dynamic geometry. Pupils are encouraged to think through problems and break questions down into more manageable "chunks".

The increased and consistent use of technology within Mathematics results in highly motivated, enthusiastic and engaged pupils who often achieve beyond expectations.

The Mathematics Faculty provides a wide range of extracurricular activities including participation in national and local Maths Challenges, residential trips, after college clubs and visits to universities, colleges and businesses.
