Message from one of our sponsors - Mr Jason Guard, Director, Whitehorn & Guard
‘After being invited to the WHAM 7 at Swanmore ‘Come Dine with Me’ evening I really did not know what to expect; nevertheless I couldn’t wait to see what culinary delights awaited me.
I was greeted in Reception by a very smartly dressed and courteous young man called Jake who then promptly escorted me to the cookery room. The first thing I saw was a big long table that had been beautifully laid ready for the meal that was nearly ready to be served once all the guests had arrived.
Once everyone was ready we were all seated and I joined Mrs Barker, Mrs Hillier and Mrs Bolton who were among the guests at one end of the table.
The pupils then gave us a choice of fruit juice, some roasted pumpkin seeds, followed by tasty pumpkin soup with chunky bread which is now definitely one of my favourites!
We were then treated to a pumpkin pie which had been cooked in spices and had a lovely light pastry attached and topped with lashings of real cream which really was delightful.
The team of pupils ensured we were looked after and served with complete efficiency and I didn’t see one face in the room that didn’t have a huge smile on it.
So I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved, you are a credit to your school and all very good cooks too. Hopefully I will be lucky enough to be invited again next year – thank you again to everyone.' |

Come Dine with Me - Pumpkins
Thank you to everyone who joined us at our second Come Dine with Me Evening yesterday. We were delighted to welcome parents and families of our budding gardeners as well as Ellie, the Chair of Governors, Mrs Hillier – Headteacher and Mr Jason Guard from Whitehorn & Guard the local estate agents and one of the sponsors of our gardening project as well as the gardening team supervisors consisting of Mrs Harwood, Mr Skelding and Miss Hick. The evening was a great success largely due to the excellent cooking of our team of pupils aided by Mrs Harwood and Mrs Straughan, Subject Leader of Food Technology, and the outstanding waiting service by our willing pupil helpers.
By popular demand the recipes can be found on the BBC Good Food web site under ‘Classic pumpkin pie with pecan and maple cream’ and ‘Pumpkin Soup’.

Strawberry Champagne evening
We held a ‘Strawberry Champagne’ Evening in the garden to thank all the people who had helped us in some way over the last year in the WHAM 7 Gardens. It was a bit chilly on the evening but a lovely time was had by all and flute music was provided by Lydia Rowswell which gave a lovely mellow feeling to the event.

Come Dine With Me
Pupils hosted ‘Come Dine With Me’ for their parents and friends of the garden yesterday evening. The meal included 9 items of produce all grown within the WHAM 7 Community Garden.
It was a beautiful evening where we are all able to dine al fresco and a good time was had by all. Big thanks to the Technology department for allowing us to use their facilities and helping us make the rhubarb crumble.

Our garden is looking splendid with its new pathways. Huge thanks to Roy Skelding and his team who worked tirelessly on Saturday to make this huge difference. May we also say thank you to John Glasspool and his company for supplying the gravel without him this finishing touch would not have been possible. Please if you are visiting the College take a minute to look at this amazing achievement.

The WHAM7 Gardens are growing beautifully!
This is looking brilliant thanks to the hard work of the community team who have tirelessly tended it. The team has consisted of College staff, parents, keen gardeners in the local villages, pupils, and local businesses. They have given up weekends, evenings and holidays to look after the garden and to make it what it is today. Please look at our WHAM 7 diary on the website to see what a long way we have come since January and the mud bath.
This is now the begging part!!!! We need a garden hose, two watering cans, rakes and hoes and anything else you would like to give. Please will you look in your sheds and ask your neighbours to see if they have anything they no longer use and would like to give us.
I would like to thank Whitehorn & Guard, AE Roberts and Aggregate Industries for their continuing support.
If you are visiting the College site please take a minute to visit our garden at the front of the College at the car park to see for yourself what a lovely spot is being created.

Keen gardeners get stuck in at the Digathon
On Saturday 29 January we held a Digathon for keen and eager gardeners as well as a few press ganged ones!!! All the beds in the garden were dug over – no mean feat and the workers were rewarded with bacon rolls and coffee.
Huge thank you to the Wroe-Beacon family, the Harwood family, the Shaw family, Kieran Maidment, the governors and the staff who all worked extremely hard and of course Miss Carr for doing the photography. Several parents and ex pupils have been very generous with their offers of help with equipment and resources and we are very grateful to them.

WHAM7 Club is racing ahead
Every Thursday from 3pm – 4pm. Pupils have been involved in sealing and painting planting boxes made by Technology.
Whitehorn and Guard, the estate agents in Bishop’s Waltham are very kindly buying us a greenhouse and top soil for our garden and we look forward to welcoming them to the site to see the greenhouse when it arrives.
We still need lots of new members from years 7 – 11 so if you fancy painting and designing this is the Club for you. We meet in S15 every Thursday at 3pm. Digging will start soon too for the more energetic members of the College. |
