Drama and History
propose to run a joint trip to the London Dungeons on Tuesday 10
& Wednesday 11 July 2012. The purpose of this visit
will be to support curriculum activities within Year 9 and provide an
insight into Key Stage 4.
For Drama this trip will enhance
the pupils’ understanding of theatrical styles, a module which pupils
study in Year 9. The performances by 14 actors at the London Dungeon
will also introduce pupils to aspects of promenade theatre and site
specific performance which are two areas that pupils will look at in
further depth if they continue to GCSE or BTEC Drama; the live
experience of this art form at the Dungeons will help to increase their
understanding of its effectiveness.
The historical aspect of this visit
will help inform and consolidate knowledge acquired from KS3. In addition, this visit will
introduce pupils to certain aspects of the GCSE ‘Medicine Through Time’
syllabus. In particular, the
London Dungeon’s presentation entitled ‘Surgery: Blood and Guts’ will
enable pupils to understand the nature of pre anaesthetic and
antiseptic surgery. The latter,
coupled with a role play on Sweeny Todd the Barber surgeon, supports
the units of work on medicine during the Medieval and the Renaissance
period.
Pupils will need to bring a
packed lunch and wear college uniform.
The coach will depart from Swanmore College
at 8.45 am and return at approximately 6.30 pm (traffic
permitting). Pupils wishing to
join the trip will be asked to make a contribution of £23.00 to cover
transport and entrance fees. However,
if enough contributions are not received we will be unable to run the
trip.
If
your child would like to join us on this trip, please return the reply
slip below, together with payment (cheque payable to ‘Swanmore College of
Technology’ with your child’s name, tutor group and the words ‘London
Dungeons’ on the reverse) and the completed consent form. Please do not
use staples.
Could you please ensure we
receive your completed forms and payment by 31 January 2012.
There are a limited number of places available so these will be
allocated on a ‘first come first served basis’.
Do please contact us if you
have any queries about the visit.
