Swanmore College donates a mountain of Easter eggs to local charities

Once again all the pupils from the College were able to give their support to Reed Specialists in supporting local charities with their Easter egg mountain.  We donated 100 eggs and as you can see in the photograph we were able to build a pretty impressive pyramid with these – no mean feat and several rocky attempts later.

The charities that will benefit from this donation are The Rainbow Centre in Fareham; The Elizabeth Foundation in Cosham; Kids South-East Fareham; Home-Start, Fareham and Portsmouth; Hampshire Autistic Society, Fareham; Fareham and Gosport Family Aid; Mencap; Motiv 8; Osborn Manor Residential Care Home.

The pupils from Swanmore are known locally as pupils who care and who want to make a difference and they should be rightly proud of the contribution they make to their community.

Parliamentary Clinics

As an initiative to make pupils more politically aware in the 21st Century, Swanmore College is now holding ‘Political Pupil Clinics.’

Each clinic will have a representative from one of the three main parties. The idea is that pupils can form small groups to meet with the representative to discuss local issues like transport, leisure facilities and university funding. This is a way for young people to be heard and make their voices count in the national political forum and a way to make changes for their future.

The first clinic was held by George Hollingbery, the MP for Meon Valley. The pupils who took
part in this session thoroughly enjoyed it.

Community French classes

During November, parents of Year 7 pupils and members of the community had been attending French classes to learn a little French and support their children in learning French at Swanmore
College of Technology.

The classes were a great success. A big thank you to all those who attended and Ms Gibert who helped run these classes.

Swanmore donates Christmas gifts to local charities

Pupils from Swanmore College of Technology have taken part in a community project involving many local businesses and being co-ordinated by Reed Specialist. The project was to donate fifty selection boxes for Kids South-East and Home-start, Fareham and Portsmouth. The response locally has been so good that it is hoped that The Rainbow Centre in Fareham, The Elizabeth Foundation in Cosham and Hampshire Autistic Society, Fareham will also benefit.

Each House and Year 7 at Swanmore College raised enough money to pay for the fifty selection boxes and wish everyone who benefits a Merry Christmas.

The picture above shows Head Boy, Nick Pearce and Head Girl, Jasmine Somers handing over the boxes to Nicky Faulkner, Business Manager from Reed Specialist.
