Hawking House is named after Stephen Hawking (born in 1942) and its members are inspired by this incredible man who, despite having motor neurone disease, has achieved such an amazing amount with his life.

 

Born in London, he grew up in St Albans and went on to Oxford University where he studied Physics. He was awarded a first class honours degree in Natural Science and moved on to Cambridge to do research in Cosmology, gaining a Ph.D.

 

Stephen Hawking has committed his life to working on the basic laws which govern the universe. His scientific genius is evident in his well read and respected books, including ‘A Brief History of Time.’
