An Overview of Learning Support

All pupils have learning needs which are usually met by their individual subject teachers. However, some pupils require additional support with their learning. This may be a short term or long term need.

At Swanmore College we endeavour to provide support in accordance with The SEN Code Of Practice. Pupils needing additional support are identified as "School Action" (SA) . Those requiring the support of outside agencies are identified as "School Action Plus" (SA+). A small number of pupils may have a Statement of Special Educational Needs (St). The Department offers emotional, social and behavioural support. For more information click here.

All identified pupils will be included in our SEN register and will have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). This plan will set targets to support academic, emotional and behavioural progress. These IEPs are reviewed twice a year and new targets set. Parents are invited to the first review but subsequent reviews are with pupils only in order to encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own learning and progress.  Parents are requested to agree with the targets via the Pupil Planner.
